Research boot camp is a project between the Learning Center and Middle School Skills teachers to help sixth grade students reinforce and build information skills that will help them be successful in sixth grade and beyond.
DAY ONE - Finding Information Search Shark - Start here to learn about some search strategies and practice building keywords. Search Journal - Make ONE copy of this document for your group. All group members should contribute to the search journal. Research Questions:
Geography and Location
Where did the tribe live?
Where is the tribe now?
Games and Entertainment
What did kids play?
What was the purpose of this play?
DAY TWO - Evaluating Information
Website Evaluation Checklist - use this document to help you evaluate websites your group found on Day 1 Add to the FlipGrid a short video about the site that your group would recommend to others researching this subject.
DAY THREE - Using Information Ethically Today we'll be learning about NoodleTools to cite sources! 1. We'll set up your NoodleTools account. You can also access this tool from the Apps in your Google Drive. 2. Complete a citation as a group. 3. Each person will complete a citation for one of your research sources. 4. Each person will paste citations on your group's search journal document.
By the end of the boot camp, groups will turn in their Search Journal with their evaluation scores AND post to the FlipGrid.
